SINGAPORE (Aug 17): Finnish developer HMD Global has announced its first Android flagship, the Nokia 8: an all-aluminium, precision-milled unibody device with an average thickness of 7.3mm and powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 Mobile Platform.

HMD Global owns the rights to manufacture Nokia-branded smartphones. Manufacturing is outsourced to a division of Taiwanese electronics company Foxconn Technology Group.

In a press release on Thursday, HMD Global claims its new generation Nokia smartphone will bring three “world-firsts” to Android smartphones in a single design.

According to the company, Nokia 8 will be the smartphone first device in the world to enable Dual-Sight videos to livestream natively and in real-time to social feeds such as on Facebook and YouTube, which is accomplished by simultaneously harnessing both the front and rear cameras in a split screen visual to capture both photos and videos.

It will also the first smartphone to feature Nokia OZO Audio, which represents “Hollywood technology in the palm of your hand” by integrating the smartphone’s 4K video playing and recording capabilities with OZO spatial 360-degree audio.

Lastly, the Nokia 8 represents the first new-generation smartphone of its kind by HMD Global to feature the ZEISS brand of optical technologies. This also marks the developer’s debut collaboration with the German manufacturer of optical systems, industrial measurements and medical devices.

“The Nokia 8 has been designed from the ground up with the consumer in mind to deliver unique content capture capabilities, meaning it is as meticulously designed on the inside as it is on the outside. To keep your phone working harder for longer, the design, innovation and engineering teams worked hand-in-hand to deliver,” states HMD Global on the launch of its new product.

“The result is a full-length graphite shielded copper cooling pipe that dissipates the heat generated by the high performing system across the full length and breadth of the handset. The Nokia 8 runs cooler in even the most demanding situations,” it adds.

The Nokia 8 will be available in four colours – Polished Blue, Polished Copper, Tempered Blue and Steel – at a global average retail price of €599 ($962).

Its release date in Singapore was not mentioned.
