RWDC wins $980,000 in Temasek-backed Liveability Challenge 2018 with biodegradable straws

SINGAPORE (July 11): RWDC Industries overcame five other finalists at the inaugural edition of The Liveability Challenge to walk away with $980,000 to jumpstart its proposal to replace single-use plastic straws with drinking straws made from a certified biodegradable biopolymer.

Presented by Temasek Foundation Ecosperity and organised by sustainability media Eco-Business, The Liveability Challenge aims to close the gap between the ideas that will make Asia’s cities more sustainable and the investments that will make these solutions a reality.

TTJ to diversify into waste management

SINGAPORE (Nov 1): TTJ Holdings is planning to diversify its current structural steel business and operation of dormitories to include waste management and treatment.

These include waste management and treatment-related activities such as the provision of sustainability-related solutions like waste-to-energy plants; construction and operation of waste management and treatment facilities as well as extraction, production and sale of waste-derived products such as refuse-derived fuel.

Colex acquires 80% of Vemac Services for $2.2 mil

SINGAPORE (Oct 27): Colex Holdings, the waste management company, has agreed to acquire an 80% stake in Vemac Services for $2.2 million.

Vemac is the business of repairing, maintaining, refrigerating, air-conditioning and ventilating machinery and equipment.

The sellers of the 494,720 Vemac shares are "several third party individuals" who will hold the remaining 20% stake in Vemac.

The acquisition will be funded through the group’s cash and bank borrowings.

Following the acquisition, Vemac will be a subsidiary of Colex.
