Singapore launches unified QR code for e-payments; new rules soon to address likely risks

SINGAPORE (Sept 17): Singapore on Monday launched the Singapore Quick Response Code (SGQR), which combines multiple payment QR codes into a single SGQR label.

The first of its kind globally, SGQR will be adopted by 27 payment schemes, including PayNow, NETS, GrabPay, Liquid Pay and Singtel DASH.

To be deployed progressively over the next six months, SGQR will replace more than 19,000 QR codes currently in use at store fronts and billing statements.

UnionPay QR payment service now available at hawker centres in Singapore

SINGAPORE (June 7): UnionPay International (UPI) bank members will soon be able to make Quick Response (QR) code payments at selected hawker centres, a solution developed by homegrown payments technology Liquid Group.

In a press release issued on Thursday, Liquid Group says it has partnered with UPI to enable consumers using UPI banks’ mobile QR payment apps to pay at the group’s network of merchants.

EZ-Link, Mastercard among consortium formed to implement interoperable local QR payments

SINGAPORE (Jan 25): A consortium of seven mobile wallets, acquirers and payment networks has been formed to enable interoperable quick response (QR) payments in Singapore for both consumers and merchants.

The consortium aims to jointly support an interoperable QR framework that allows consumers to pay with their mobile wallets and cards at participating merchants on a single merchant system.

It also targets to support interoperability among 2 million customers and 50,000 merchants in Singapore by end-2Q18.
