Grab vanquishes Uber with local strategy, billions from SoftBank

SINGAPORE (Mar 27): As Uber Technologies Inc. looked to conquer ride-sharing around the world, Grab was focused on serving the 620 million people that share its home in Southeast Asia.

Helped by the deep pockets of SoftBank Group Corp., Grab emerged the winner on Monday when Uber agreed to swap its business in the region for a 27.5% stake. The deal is a vindication for co-founder Anthony Tan’s strategy of tailoring services to local needs and working with incumbent taxi operators instead of against them.

SIA's KrisFlyer programme to launch blockchain-based digital wallet app

SINGAPORE (Feb 5): KrisFlyer, the frequent-flyer programme of Singapore Airlines (SIA), is launching a blockchain-based airline loyalty digital wallet capability via a new KrisFlyer digital wallet app.

The app is expected to be rolled out in about six months from now, and will be enabled through blockchain technology using an SIA-owned private blockchain involving only merchants and partners.

Singapore Airlines, Grab in partnership for bookings and reward points conversion

SINGAPORE (Oct 3): Singapore Airlines (SIA) has joined hands with private hire car service operator Grab as competition heats up in the transport space.

SIA and Grab in a joint statement on Tuesday say they are integrating their mobile apps to offer enhanced convenience to customers when travelling to the airport in six countries across Southeast Asia: Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

Starting today, SIA customers can book Grab rides through the SingaporeAir mobile app.
