Addition of two localised 5G networks brings total to four

SINGAPORE (Oct 21): Singapore is looking to increase the number of 5G networks to four, from the two previously planned, according to Minister for Communications and Information S Iswaran.

Besides the two nationwide 5G networks previously announced, the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) will issue the right to operate two localised 5G networks. These networks can serve a smaller area and will be focused on niche business needs such as operating equipment in smart factories or ports.

SINGAPORE (July 17): Singapore has launched the world’s first Data Protection Officer Competency Framework and Training Roadmap that combines both data protection and data innovation to provide a clear pathway for DPOs to upskill and progress in their careers.

“With this DPO Competency Framework and Training Roadmap, Singapore aims to be the provider of high quality training for DPOs in the region,” says Minister for Communications and Information, S Iswaran, as he announced the initiative at the opening of the 7th Personal Data Protection (PDP) Seminar on Wednesday.

IMDA launches initiatives to drive Singapore's digital economy

SINGAPORE (June 27): Singapore’s Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) has launched a series of initiatives to spearhead the city-state’s efforts to become a leading digital economy.

The initiatives were announced by Minister for Communications and Information, S Iswaran, at the Innovfest Unbound, an anchor event of the Smart Nation Innovations Week.

First, IMDA and the National Research Foundation (NRF) will set aside $40 million to build an open and inclusive 5G innovation ecosystem.

SingPost to hire more postmen, redeploy drivers and increase PO staff after being fined $100,000 for not meeting quality standards

SINGAPORE (Feb 8): Singapore Post (SingPost) says it will be hiring a hundred more postmen and redeploying 35 mail-drop drivers to become full-time postmen as well as increase the number of dedicated counters and staff at post offices, aside from upgrading the skill-set of its postal workers.

It will also carry out a broader salary review with incentives for successful deliveries of trackable items to the doorstep; extending mail delivery slots to weekday evenings and on Saturdays with overtime pay for postmen.

IBM partners IMDA to roll out 'New Collar Apprenticeship' initiative after layoffs in Singapore

SINGAPORE (Aug 16): International Business Machines (IBM) is joining the Infocomm Media Development Authority’s (IMDA) Company-Led Training programme under its TechSkills Accelerator (TeSA) initiative to roll out their first “New Collar Apprenticeship” initiative outside of the US.

Through the apprenticeships, IBM Singapore intends to also employ and train non-degree holders for infocomm technology (ICT) jobs within the technology industry.

NetLink Trust unit price seemingly unaffected by $150,000 IMDA fine

SINGAPORE (Dec 28): Shares in NetLink NBN Trust are trading flat at 84 cents this morning, seemingly unaffected by news that it has been hit by a fine from the industry regulator.

The Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) has imposed a financial penalty of $150,000 on NetLink Trust, for failing to meet its Quality of Service (QoS) standards in the assessment from July 2016 to June 2017 for both residential and non-residential orders.
