Serial System’s 4Q earnings quadruple to $5.7 mil on one-off gain and higher income

SINGAPORE (Feb 22): Serial System has announced earnings of US$4 million ($5.7 million) for the fourth quarter ended Dec 31, four times more than a year ago.

As such, earnings per share (EPS) for the quarter increased to 0.45 US cent from 0.11 US cent for 4Q2015.

In a Wednesday statement, the distributor of electronic components and consumer products says its earnings for the quarter were helped by a gain from the disposal of available‐for‐sale financial assets, as well as by higher office rental income, finance income, commission income and product rebates.

Worldwide PC shipments down 5.2% in 2Q, but turnaround seen, says Gartner

SINGAPORE (July 12): Worldwide PC shipment for the second quarter was down 5.2% y-o-y to 64.3 million units, extending the decline to seven straight quarters. During the quarter, all regions except North America saw a drop in volume. However, Gartner, which released these statistics, sees signs of improvement.

“One of the ongoing problems in the PC market has been the price hike in selected regions due to the weakening local currency against the US dollar,” says Mikako Kitagawa, principal analyst at Gartner.
