Singapore continues rise to become 12th most expensive location in the world for expats

SINGAPORE (June 13): Singapore is now the 12th most expensive location in the world for expatriates, according to the latest cost of living survey published by ECA International.

The annual study, which compares a basket of like-for-like consumer goods and services in 482 locations worldwide, also places Singapore as the 6th most expensive location in Asia Pacific.

Business trips to Singapore now cost less than before, but barely so

SINGAPORE (April 17): A typical business trip to Singapore now costs an average of US$468 ($633) per day, down slightly from the daily average of US$479 in 2018.

Based on the latest Daily Rates research findings published by ECA International, this pushes Singapore down by a notch to fourth place this year in the Asia rankings for the region’s most expensive locations for business travel.

Singapore back among top 20 most expensive locations in the world: ECA International

SINGAPORE (Dec 17): Singapore is once again the world’s top 20 most expensive locations for expatriate workers, with the city state taking its spot at 18th globally and 9th within Asia, according to the latest Cost of Living survey published by ECA International.

Last year, Singapore was ranked 21st most expensive city in the world for expats, dropping from 16th in 2016. But its 9th position within the region has remained unchanged since 2016.

In a Tuesday release, ECA International notes that Singapore comes in at No. 20 this year after rising four places in the global rankings, which is however still lower than its peak at 18th place in 2016.

SINGAPORE (May 28): Expatriates in Singapore are now receiving significantly less wages than before, even as the city state remains one of the 20 most expensive countries to employ expat staff in, finds an annual study published by ECA International.

Based on results of the latest MyExpatriate Market Pay survey, the average cost of employing an expat in Singapore has shrunk by over US$12,000 ($16,070) in 2017 compared to the year before, with the value of a typical annual compensation and benefits package for a middle-manager now costing $223,095, down from US$235,545 in 2016.

Here's how much a business trip to Singapore will cost you per day

SINGAPORE (Apr 17): It has become increasingly expensive for companies to send their staff on business trips on Singapore, finds a recent survey conducted by research firm ECA International.

Based on the latest Daily Rates research published by ECA International, the cost of a business trip to Singapore in 2017 averaged at a whopping US$479 ($627) per day – inclusive of four-star hotel accommodation, meals, drinks, laundry, taxi transport and daily essentials.

Singapore keeps top spot as most liveable city for Asian expats

SINGAPORE (Mar 13): Singapore has maintained its top spot as the most liveable city in the world for Asian expatriates, according to the latest Location Ratings survey published by global mobility expert, ECA International.

In a media release issued on Tuesday, Lee Quane, regional director – Asia at ECA International says, “This is due to a combination of factors such as low crime rates, easy access to good quality schools and healthcare and lower levels of pollution than a lot of other locations in the region.”

Hong Kong way ahead of Singapore, topping Asia expat rental list

HONG KONG (Jan 17): Hong Kong retained its title as Asia’s most expensive rental city for expatriates, while Singapore fell further down the ranking due to a slower economy and fewer relocations, according to consultancy firm ECA International.

Hong Kong sat atop the list with an average price of US$10,461 ($13,811) per month for an unfurnished, three-bedroom apartment in expatriate neighborhoods, according to results from ECA’s September 2017 accommodation survey. Tokyo held onto the No. 2 spot. Singapore slipped one spot to eighth.

Singapore no longer among world's top 20 most expensive cities: ECA International

SINGAPORE (Dec 12): Singapore has dropped out from the list of the world’s top 20 most expensive cities for expatriates to live and work in, according to the latest cost of living research published by mobility solutions provider ECA International. 

The city state has been found to now rank as the 21st most expensive city globally – dropping five places from the year before and now at its lowest since 2014, having been overtaken by cities such as Tel Aviv and Copenhagen on the back of strengthening European currencies.

Singapore professionals can look forward to 2.7% real-terms rise in 2018 salary: ECA

SINGAPORE (Nov 16): Singaporeans can expect their salaries to increase by 4% in 2018, according to the latest Salary Trends Survey by ECA International.

The survey reports current-year salary increases for local national employees and the anticipated increases for reviews in the forthcoming year.

After factoring in inflation, which is predicted to be about 1.3% in 2018, Singapore employees are expected to see real-terms salary increase of 2.7%.
