How CEO Loh Boon Chye is getting Singapore Exchange future-ready

SINGAPORE (Mar 29): With an equity market revival, 2018 could be the year that SGX comes into its own as a multi-asset exchange.

Over the years, SGX has grown the range of equity and commodities derivatives it offers. Its index futures and options products cover popular indices such as the FTSE China A50 Index and Nikkei 225.

SGX has developed foreign exchange (FX) futures for most of the major regional currencies. Its commodities futures and options include iron ore, rubber and forward freight agreements.

Asean stock exchanges may face headwinds going into 2018, warns EY

SINGAPORE (Mar 29): Asean exchanges will need to brace themselves for headwinds even as their pipelines for initial public offerings (IPO) this year look fuller than in 2017, says global financial services firm EY.

Based on the latest quarterly report, Global IPO trends: 1Q 2018, total IPO proceeds raised from Asean exchanges fell to US$661 million in 1Q18, down from US$1.1 billion a year ago and mainly comprising contributions from Thailand and Vietnam’s stock exchanges.

SGX market turnover up 16% to $32.8 bil in Feb; posts highest SDAV since May 2013

SINGAPORE (Mar 9): The Singapore Exchange (SGX) reported a 16% year-on-year increase in total Securities market turnover value to $32.8 billion in Feb, up 12% from that of Jan 2018.

There were 22 trading days in Jan 2018 and 20 in Feb 2017.

Securities daily average value (SDAV) was up 22% y-o-y and 29% m-o-m at $1.7 billion.

SGX to list Nifty successor products by August

SINGAPORE (Feb 19): Singapore Exchange (SGX) announced it will list successor products to its SGX Nifty family of products before August this year.

SGX shares opens near 7% lower on Nifty futures exit news

SINGAPORE (Feb 12): Shares in Singapore Exchange (SGX) opened at $7.40 -- nearly 7% lower than its Friday closing price of $7.89 -- following news that the Indian stock exchanges are intending to restrict the usage of Indian indices and market data by foreign exchanges, indices and data providers.   

The move will prevent SGX from continuing to offer derivatives based on India’s benchmark Nifty 50.

Singapore Exchange seeks to defuse tensions over National Stock Exchange of India in futures dispute

SINGAPORE (Feb 12): Singapore Exchange extended an olive branch to its counterpart in India as it sought to defuse escalating tensions that threaten to kill an 18-year licensing partnership.

SGX will work with the National Stock Exchange of India “toward solutions for global investors,” according to a statement on Sunday. It also noted that the two companies’ partnership goes back to 2000 and that they had collaborated “to develop and internationalize India’s capital markets.”

Singapore Exchange market turnover down 8% y-o-y in Dec

SINGAPORE (Jan 8): The Singapore Exchange (SGX) saw total securities market turnover value fall 8% year-on-year to $19.2 billion over 20 trading days in Dec 2017. Compared to November, total market turnover value fell 33% m-o-m.

There were 22 trading days in Nov 2017 and 21 trading days in Dec 2016.

Securities daily average value (SDAV) for December was $959 million, down 26% m-o-m and down 4% y-o-y.

Market turnover value of Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) was $199 million, down 13% m-o-m and down 15% y-o-y.

SGX posts 3% y-o-y decline in market turnover for Nov

SINGAPORE (Dec 6): The Singapore Exchange (SGX) has reported a 3% y-o-y decline for its total securities market turnover value over the 22 trading days in Nov 2017. Compared to October, total market turnover value was up 19% m-o-m.

There were 21 and 22 trading days in Oct 2017 and Nov 2016, respectively.

Securities daily average value (SDAV) for November was down 3% y-o-y but increased on a m-o-m basis when compared to data from Oct.

SGX America launched with opening of first office in Chicago

SINGAPORE (Oct 17): Singapore Exchange (SGX) today announced the official launch and office opening of SGX America in Chicago, US. 

In a Tuesday release, SGX says its US presence will enable it to better serve a growing client base in the region and meet rising international investor appetite to access and risk-manage Asian exposure.

It adds that SGX America will enhance access for investors in North America to risk management solutions and price discovery tools that also span foreign exchange (forex) and commodities.

SGX market turnover up 26% y-o-y to $25.9 bil in August

SINGAPORE (Sept 7): Singapore Exchange (SGX) saw a 26% year-on-year increase in total Securities market turnover value to $25.9 billion in August. Compared to July, total market turnover value was 2% higher month-on-month.

There were 22 trading days in August 2016 and 2017, and 21 trading days in July 2017.

Securities daily average value (SDAV) was up 26% y-o-y to $1.2 billion in August. However, this was a decline of 3% m-o-m compared to the preceding month of July.
