Singtel to buy US$525 mil worth of stock in India's Bharti Airtel

(Mar 7): Singapore Telecommunications (Singtel) said it will buy roughly US$525 million ($712.4 million) worth Bharti Airtel stock as part of the Indian telecoms operator's plan to raise US$4.6 billion through new shares and bonds.

The fund raising plan, announced last month, is aimed at cutting debt and shoring up Bharti Airtel's balance sheet as the Indian telecom industry reels from the impact of a price war triggered by the entry of Reliance Jio Infocomm.

SINGAPORE (Mar 15): RHB is reiterating its “buy” call on Singtel given its underperformance over the past year following its selldown.

RHB has also updated the target price to $4.10 to reflect a higher effective stake in Bharti Airtel.

The rerating comes after Singtel’s recent completion of its purchase of an additional 1.7% stake in Bharti Telecom for $539.4 million, which effectively raised its stake in the latter’s subsidiary Bharti Airtel to 39.5% from 38.6% previously.

Singtel increases stake in Bharti Airtel to 39.5%

SINGAPORE (Feb 5): Singtel has increased its effective stake in Bharti Airtel by 0.9 percentage points to 39.5%.

This comes after wholly-owned subsidiary, Singtel International Investments, acquired a 1.7% stake in Bharti Telecom for INR26.5 billion ($555.6 million) to 48.9%.

Singtel International will be subscribing to new shares in Bharti Telecom under a proposed preferential allotment.

About 85.5 million new shares in Bharti Telecom will be issued to Singtel International at INR310 each.

Bharti Telecom is the 50.1% holding company of Bharti Airtel.

Singtel to pay $2.5 bil for Temasek’s stakes in Intouch, Bharti

SINGAPORE (Aug 18): Singapore Telecommunications agreed to pay $2.47 billion for stakes in Thailand’s Intouch Holdings and India’s Bharti Telecom to broaden access to fast-growing wireless markets in the countries and in Africa.

Singtel to acquire shares in Intouch and Bharti Telecom from Temasek for $2.5 bil in total

SINGAPORE (Aug 18): Singtel has entered into conditional share purchase agreements with Temasek to acquire 21% of Intouch Holdings pcl and 7.39% of Bharti Telecom for a total consideration of $2.47 billion.

Singtel will pay Temasek THB60.83 ($2.36) for each share of Intouch and INR235.62 ($4.72) for each share of Bharti Telecom.
