DO
Run For Hope

National Cancer Centre Singapore

One of Singapore’s largest runs supporting cancer research, Run For Hope, returns for the 29th year as a hybrid event organised by the Four Seasons Hotel Singapore and the National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS).

Whether you prefer the camaraderie of a physical run, the safety and flexibility of a virtual one, or a combination of both, there is something for every participant. New distance categories have been introduced this year — 2.9km and 10km for the physical run and 29km and 290km for the virtual and combination runs. The 290km category can be completed by running, cycling, or combining both. The physical and combination runs will be flagged off on Nov 6 at the Marina Barrage.

Run For Hope has been supporting the NCCS Cancer Research Fund since 2008. Funds raised support clinical and translational research to improve the prevention, detection and treatment of those diagnosed with the disease. Run For Hope also raises awareness of rare cancer types and sheds light on the various challenges people with cancer and their loved ones face daily.

To celebrate the American professional basketball league National Basketball Association's (NBA) 75th anniversary, Hennessy has teamed up with designer Lorenz Bäumer to create a new Hennessy Paradis magnum: A Baccarat crystal basketball to magnify an exceptional cognac and pay tribute to the most famous basketball league of all time. A limited edition of 75 units worldwide, these magnificent magnums of 1.75 litres will be available for bidding, starting at $225,000.

The next is The Royal Salute: The Art Edition, a world-exclusive release designed to celebrate the transformative power of creativity between art and whisky. This 53-year-old blended scotch whisky was bottled in 1953 — the same year Queen Elizabeth II was crowned — and Royal Salute was established. Each decanter is mouth-blown by glassmakers of Dartington Crystal, engraved with intricate feathers and hand-gilded in 24-carat gold leaf. Only 21 bottles are produced worldwide, and bids start from $130,000.

WOWS will also hold a by-invite-only event from Oct 28 to 30 to explore its exceptional spirits. Some highlights to look out for are the exhibition of rarities, masterclasses hosted by industry experts, artistic performances, and tastings from a selected range of rare and delicate items. To sign-up, visit wows.changiairport.com/events.

Whet palates with a trio of Austrian bites like Backhend’l (fried chicken) with cucumber salad and pumpkin seed oil; Speck with apricot mustard; and Marinated Forest Mushrooms with warm potato espuma (the Spanish culinary term for foam) and herbs. Chef Armin’s Lightly Smoked Eel follows this with crispy pork crouton, mustard and horseradish. Equally memorable is the Tyrolean-style Rye Ravioli, finished with white cheese, brown butter and chives, and the Farmers Bread Wrapped Crispy Egg. Another main course highlight is the meltingly tender and flavourful Braised Lamb Leg. Conclude on a sweet note with an Oven-Baked Apple, served with salty caramel and cranberry ice cream.

Guests can pair their meals with wines ($115++ per guest) featuring wines from Austrian wineries like Pittnauer and family-owned Tement. The former produces certified biodynamic and organic wines, while the latter produces handcrafted wines attributed to its bio-organic vineyards. For reservations, call 6408 1288.

Viva Italiano
LUCE by Davide Giacomelli

Enjoy the best of Italian gastronomy at InterContinental Singapore. Contemporary Italian restaurant LUCE by Davide Giacomelli is now offering an Italian Bistronomic Champagne Brunch (from $98++ per person every Sunday) featuring an extensive buffet line of cold starters, cheeses, hot specialities, desserts and live stations.

Giacomelli has refreshed the a la carte menu with new pinsas, pizzas and mains like the moreish Pancia di Maiale ‘Duroc’ e Insalata di Lenticchie, featuring slow-cooked pork belly served on a bed of lentils. IWC Top Gun Exhibition
Design Orchard

IWC Schaffhausen invites all to discover its monochromatic exhibition pop-up in Singapore from Oct 22 to 30. Taking over the third floor of Design Orchard, the IWC Top Gun Exhibition will be decked out entirely in dark green, representing “Woodland”, one of the top gun shades.

For the first time, 14 professional military watches that IWC manufactured for pilots from the US Navy and Marine Corps aviation units will be on display, including pieces from the current collection and a host of unique experiences such as watchmaking classes, talks, and coffee workshops.

The exhibition will also feature AR technology and a peek into IWC’s virtual 3D environment in the metaverse created by renowned architect Hani Rashid. There are four monochromatic worlds, each representing the watchmaker’s new ceramic colours — ‘IWC Mojave Desert’, ‘IWC Woodland’, ‘IWC Lake Tahoe’ and ‘IWC Ceratanium’.

Visitors are also invited to collect an NFT (non-fungible token) specially dedicated to Singapore, which unlocks exclusive utilities and benefits such as curated virtual events within the 3D space and future physical events and services. Additionally, members can participate in token-gated community channels.

Talks on marine conservation
The Ocean Collective Summit

A conference initiated by The International SeaKeepers Society in cooperation with Fabien Cousteau — famous Aquanaut, Oceanographic Explorer and Environmental Advocate — The Ocean Collective Summit (TOCS) comes to Singapore for a two-day event at ONE°15 Marina Sentosa Cove on Nov 3-4.

TOCS, part of Blue Water EduFest 2022, aims to gather thought leaders to educate, raise awareness and inspire action to be taken, and work collectively towards a more sustainable future for ocean preservation.

Key speakers on Day 1 include Cousteau, who will present and discuss global developments in ocean sustainability as well as how humans can make a difference in ocean sustainability; Carol Phua, Global Coral Reef Initiative Leader, WWF Oceans Practice, who will share her knowledge in her presentation, “Surviving the Climate Crisis in the Heart of Ocean Biodiversity”; and Anna Marsden, Managing Director, Great Barrier Reef Foundation, will close the first day of the conference with her thoughts on how partnerships from both the corporate and government sectors are crucial in ensuring healthy oceans. The second day of the conference explores how corporate citizens maintain the balance between commercial requirements and responsibility to the environment.

The International SeaKeepers Society’s key mission is to have its members pool together resources to help facilitate marine research and conservation. The Ocean Collective Summit is another platform for them to further work and to continue to educate youth and bring a general awareness of ecological issues to the forefront.

As part of the plan to equip future generations with the necessary information gleaned from the various stakeholders and entities involved in conservation efforts, The International SeaKeepers Society will award a huge portion of tickets to marine science enthusiasts and students from various tertiary institutions.
