SINGAPORE (Oct 8): When Hans Wilsdorf, founder of Rolex, created the Montres Tudor in 1946, he envisioned a watch that was of high quality and dependability. Today, Tudor has lived up to Wilsdorf’s philosophy through the #BornToDare campaign, which is aimed at reflecting both the history of the brand and what it stands for today. It tells the adventures of individuals who have achieved the extraordinary — on land, on ice, in the air or underwater — with a Tudor watch on their wrists.

In the new campaign, high-profile ambassadors, whose life achievements directly result from a daring approach to life, are featured. In its latest offering, celebrity, footballer and watch collector David Beckham steps into the spotlight in a campaign shot by fashion photographer David Sims. The Tudor ambassador reflects on times he had embodied the “Born To Dare” spirit. Beckham speaks fondly about time spent with his grandfather, time on the pitch as England captain and his first Tudor watch — a vintage model whose patina hints at many past adventures.

The Ferragamo man

The spring/summer 2019 collection for men by Salvatore Ferragamo focuses on colour, leather and linen. Mesh T-shirts and embroidered shorts breathe life into an otherwise safe collection. Vests make a comeback too, but in brighter shades such as burnt orange.

Remarkable personality

The new Panerai Luminor California 8 Days DLC’s California dial, 44mm titanium case coated in diamond-like carbon and hand-wound mechanical P.5000 calibre movement, with a power reserve of eight days, are the result of a combination of classic Panerai elements. A new cuff strap further expresses the personality of the watch with its decidedly sporty character. The hour and minute hands are oxidised at a controlled temperature to achieve a particular metallic blue, which is reminiscent of some historic Panerai models. The untreated leather strap combines strength with a soft, natural effect and its varied patina, modified by use and the passage of time, makes each example unique. It can be worn in its basic version or as a cuff strap, using the accessory supplied, which was originally designed for military use and prevents the back of the watch coming into contact with the skin.

Incredible mission

What happens when golf greats and Audemars Piguet ambassadors get together for the Manhattan Masters? An amazing game of golf held on a rooftop. The players are Ian Poulter, who prepared this challenge for his fellow Dream Team members, Wesley Bryan, Patrick Cantlay, Emiliano Grillo, Tyrrell Hatton, Andrew Johnston, Xander Schauffele and Peter Uihlein. Each man had to shoot glowing golf balls into Manhattan’s night sky to hit a moving target net. Four drone pilots controlled the glowing target net — an extraordinary display of teamwork and technological power. Watch this feat at and on the new AP Golf Instagram account audemarspiguetgolf.

Race in time

Breguet has partnered Race for Water Foundation to raise awareness of ocean preservation and plastic pollution. From now until 2021, the Race for Water Odyssey vessel will make about 35 stopovers all around the world and provide an opportunity for scientists and decision-makers to gather and share their findings on the need to preserve water. To mark the significance of the project, a Breguet Marine 5517 “Race for Water” special-edition timepiece will accompany the explorers. This is a nod towards Breguet’s history of providing seagoing vessels with accurate chronometers that serve to calculate longitude at sea.
