Universal themes
Cartier continues to introduce new products in its Hearts and Symbols collection that elevate the maison’s savoir faire to a different level. Each of the symbols holds a special meaning. Our favourite is the Hand of Fatima (pictured), or the Hamsa, a palm-shaped amulet popular in North Africa and the Middle East. The symbol of an open right hand is thought to provide protection against the evil eye.

Brilliant bridge
The Golden Bridge Rectangle Diamonds timepiece from Corum celebrates the Art Deco period. Different cuts of diamonds — from the baguette cut to rectangular and round cut — enhance the design, while several diamonds are sculpted to highlight each line of the watch. Each index is individually carved into a mass of gold to form the Roman numerals, and a discreet floral engraving, with the name of the brand, highlights the Art Deco

Pampering time
For more than 150 years, Crème Simon from France has been manufacturing a selection of skincare products as well as well-being teas and supplements such as multivitamins. For Valentine’s Day, this brand is offering special pampering sets (prices range from $88 to $108). Browse the complete collection at the flagship store at Downtown OUE Gallery 1 or visit www.creme-simon.com for more information.

You can now customise your Bernina sewing machine, just like you would a digital device. To celebrate the Chinese New Year, three new artworks have been created for the Bernina 3 series of sewing machines: 330, 350 and 380. From Feb 9 to 22, head to Takashimaya and purchase a Bernina and you can select one of the three skins to adorn your machine. So, if you harbour thoughts of becoming the next winner of Project Runway, perhaps you should invest in a Bernina sewing machine. Bernina is a Swiss manufacturer of computerised sewing and embroidery machines that was founded in 1893.

Qipao chic
Blum has a fashionable collection of qipao that ranges from traditional to modern. There are 60 styles in total, with each featuring a special print and unique embellishments in four main themes. One is Chinese coins, an auspicious symbol, as each coin has two sides — the Yang/active side with four characters and the Yin/receptive side with two characters. Prices range from $259 to $389.

Red and gold
Greet the Year of the Dog with these whimsical items from kikki.k. Instead of the traditional, boring hong bao packets, get these red polka dot ones and decorate them with gold stickers. When visiting relatives, carry this gold wristlet that is big enough to collect all your red packets. Get the collection at ION Orchard, Raffles City, VivoCity and online.
