SINGAPORE (Jan 5): SGInnovate is seeking healthcare providers, developers and entrepreneurs to participate in the first hackathon in Asia that will be focused on companion robotics for eldercare.

Led by the MIT Hacking Medicine team, participants will be invited to build software and hardware applications for the Segway Robot platform, and allow it to engage with the elderly and care for patients with Alzheimer’s and other medical conditions.

Five Alpha Developer Edition robots – usually available to a select few developer partners globally - would be made available for participants to try out during the hackathon. Google Cloud apps will also be available to developers.

The top three winning teams stand to win prizes upwards from US$1,000 and would also get the opportunity to present their ideas at MIT Technology Review’s EmTech Asia conference.

The hackathon will be held at 32 Carpenter Street and will last from Feb 10 to Feb 12.
