SINGAPORE (Jan 29): Centurion Corporation on Tuesday officially opened Westlite Bukit Minyak, its first development in Penang and seventh in Malaysia.

Developed in collaboration with the local state government, the property also marks Penang’s first purpose-built worker’s accommodation (PBWA).

Weslite Bukit Minyak provides a 6,600-bed facility, along with several facilities, such as a supermarket, gym, food court, barber shop, internet service, recreation rooms and outdoor exercise areas.

The development is located near a key highway, giving workers easy access to the Bukit Minyak Industrial Park, the Science Park, and the Batu Kawan Industrial Park.

The total development costs associated with the project totalled RM72.3 million ($23.8 million).

This project is in line with the state government’s vision and ambitions of achieving ‘the most liveable city in Asia’ status as well as ensuring the state remains a preferred destination for investments, business and tourism.

Chow Kon Yeow, Chief Minister of Pulau Pinang, says, “The availability of such facilities will also add on to the pull factor of our state to companies and businesses with a large foreign workforce. I am confident that this pioneer PBWA project in Penang will be one of the reasons to inspire the nation as outlined in Penang 2030 while we continue to pursue strong, sustainable and equitable growth and development across the country.”

Tony Bin, managing director for accommodation business for Centurion, says, “Our goal remains to build workers accommodations that go beyond just providing a physical space with beds and walls. We endeavour to provide our residents a comfortable space that allows them to live and relax as a community within our compound.”

Shares in Centurion closed 1.22% lower at 40 cents on Tuesday.
