(Aug 21): With low interest rates and low growth dominating the markets for the better part of the past decade, investors looking for returns turned to real estate investment trusts (REITs) and high dividend-paying stocks in a big way. The low interest rate environment has also made bank borrowing more attractive and companies loaded up on debt, in part to help fund higher dividend payouts as well as to buy back their shares.
