(Aug 21): The long-simmering tension between AirAsia and Malaysia Airports Holdings has flared up again. AirAsia co-founder and group CEO Tony Fernandes took to social media again last month, calling for new airport operators to break MAHB’s near-monopoly in Malaysia’s domestic market.
The only other airport operator is MMC Corp, which runs the Senai International Airport in Johor. MAHB operates the other 39 in the country.
Fernandes’ call is not new; neither is his uneasy relationship with MAHB. So, what reignited the friction?
