Indonesia’s president Joko Widodo has been announced as one of the speakers at Temasek’s Ecosperity Week conference next week. Jokowi is scheduled to deliver a speech titled “Realising Nusantara, Indonesia’s New National Capital City” in person at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre on June 7.

According to a media briefing by Temasek on May 31, Jokowi is expected to speak about Nusantara, the future capital city of Indonesia in East Kalimantan province. Jokowi formally ratified the plan in August 2019, and it is expected to replace Jakarta as the nation’s capital following its inauguration in August 2024.

The Indonesian leader will speak on day two of Ecosperity Week, which is themed “Enabling net-zero cities”. The second day will also feature a panel discussion between Claire Perry O’Neill, former UK Minister for Energy and Clean Growth; Vinamra Srivastava, chief sustainability officer at CapitaLand Investment; and Wang Tianyi, former chairman of China Everbright Environment Group.

Grace Fu, Singapore’s Minister for Sustainability and the Environment, will deliver the keynote address on the first day of Ecosperity Week. Xie Zhenhua, China’s special envoy for climate change, will deliver a virtual address that same morning.

Desmond Lee, Minister for National Development and Minister-in-Charge of Social Services Integration, will deliver opening remarks and join a fireside chat on June 7.

Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for Social Policies and chairman of the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), will deliver the keynote address at the Financing Asia’s Transition (FAST) Conference on June 8.
