SINGAPORE (Dec 13): SIA Engineering has inked a 10-year agreement with French aircraft engine manufacturer Safran Aircraft Engines (SAE).

The agreement is an extension of a partnership which began more than three years ago.

The deal encompasses engine Quick Turn (QT) and modification embodiment services for both CFM LEAP-1A and LEAP-1B engines.

Under the agreement, SIA Engineering will set up a dedicated facility with the latest engine and QT processes and technology to provide engine maintenance services to SAE. The LEAP-1A is one of two engine options for the Airbus A320neo family, while the LEAP-1B is the exclusive powerplant for the Boeing 737 MAX.

The facility will start operations in 2020, SIA Engineering reported on Friday.

SAE chief executive Olivier Andriès says that SIA Engineering will contribute to the maintenance, repair and overhaul ramp-up of the LEAP engine.

“We look forward to expanding our activities with Safran Aircraft Engines on LEAP-1A and LEAP-1B quick turns and bringing the latest technology and processes to enhance our engine maintenance capabilities,” adds SIA Engineering chief executive Png Kim Chiang.

As at 12.20pm, shares in SIA Engineering are trading two cents higher, or 0.7% up, at $2.83.
