SINGAPORE (July 29): Scoot, the low-cost arm of the Singapore Airlines Group (SIA), is adding 16 brand-new A321neo aircraft to its fleet.

This new fleet will enable Scoot to meet its double-digit growth plan by the end of FY20/21.

The first aircraft, named “Wings of Change”, will be delivered in the 4Q20, and will be used for medium-haul markets with routes under six hours. Of the 16 aircrafts, 6 are an upsize from Scoot’s current A320neo order from Airbus, while the remaining 10 will be leased.

The single-aisle aircrafts will each be fitted with 236 seats, 50 more than that of the A320neo and are powered by Pratt & Whitney engines.

The new A321neo’s enhanced sharklets, fuel-efficient engines and latest cabin innovations in the widest single-aisle cabin in the sky expected fuel cost savings of 12% compared to the A320neos.

In addition, the noise footprints and nitrogen oxide emissions of the aircrafts will be halved, along with a reduction of 5,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year per aircraft.

Scoot CEO Lee Lik Hsin says, “The A321neos will inject growth possibilities to our network plans for 2020 and beyond. We hope the process of introducing this new fleet into our Scoot family will be as exciting for our customers as it is for us.”

Shares in SIA closed 6 cents higher at $9.68 on Monday.
