SINGAPORE (July 10): The engineers and project managers at Boustead Projects, the industrial property arm of Boustead Singapore, are used to designing complicated buildings such as water treatment plans and wind tunnels. They are now turning their attention to something a little simpler — but with just as much promise.

Boustead Projects is building a multi-tenanted business park at Mediapolis, a 19ha hub in one-north created by Jurong Town Corp for the infocomm, media, physical sciences and engineering sectors. The 12- storey building, which has yet to be named, has a gross floor area (GFA) of almost 40,000 sq m. About 6,800 sq m will be reserved for start-ups that have graduated from the JTC LaunchPad @ one-north, which provides up to 100 sq m of space to Singapore-based start-ups that are five years old or younger. Boustead Projects will also allocate 300 sq m for collaborative spaces and 1,500 sq m for a shared media facility.

“We envisioned for this building to go beyond a plain-vanilla corporate building,” says Wong Yu Wei, senior deputy managing director of Boustead Projects. “In the past, landlords put up a building and offered leases. But we’re building for a [new kind of community], which wants shared amenities and common spaces.”
