Here are five things you need to know this week:


1 The US will withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal, backpedalling on the landmark agreement reached by the Obama administration. In a speech on May 8, US President Donald Trump condemned the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action as insufficient to deter Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. “At the heart of the Iran deal was a giant fiction: that a murderous regime desired only a peaceful nuclear energy programme,” he says. Trump’s decision is likely to further aggravate Iranians (pictured).
