Mr Ng Soo Nam - Head of Asian Equities, Threadneedle Investments


Mr Ng joined Threadneedle Investments in October 2013 as Head of Asian Equities based in Singapore. He is responsible for building the investment process in Singapore and expanding the firm’s offering for Asian investors.  Currently he supports the team on research for stocks listed in Hong Kong. Before joining Threadneedle he was Chief Investment Officer at Nikko Asset Management. He has extensive experience in the industry and prior to this he was Chief Investment Officer at Mirae Asset Global Investment Management and a fund manager at Schroder Investment Management. He has an Economics degree from the University of Adelaide in Australia and is a CFA Charterholder.
 
Ms Irene Goh - Senior Portfolio Manager, AllianceBernstein
 
Ms Goh joined AllianceBernstein as a Senior Portfolio Manager in 2011. Previously, she was the head of Asia, asset allocation and currency (AAC) at UBS Global Asset Management. In that capacity, she managed multi-asset and multi-manager portfolios for clients and was one of six voting members on the global AAC investment committee. Previously, she was responsible for managing the assets of an ultra high-net-worth family office and invested across both traditional and alternative asset classes. She has also served as a senior investment manager in the quantitative investment division of the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation. She started her career as a derivatives trader at J.P. Morgan and progressed to VP in structured products. She holds a BA in economics and statistics from the National University of Singapore (where she earned a top student award in statistics) as well as a BS (with honors) in economics. She is a CFA, CAIA and FRM Charterholder. 

 
Mr Christopher Wong - Senior Investment Manager, Aberdeen Asset Management


 
Mr Wong is a Senior Investment Manager on the Asian Equities Team. He joined Aberdeen in 2001 in the Private Equity Team and transferred to the Asian Equities Team in 2002. Previously, he worked for Andersen Corporate Finance as an Associate Director advising clients on mergers and acquisitions in South East Asia. He graduated with a BA in Accounting and Finance from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA) and is a CFA Charterholder.
 
Mr Desmond Soon - Co-Head of Investment Management, Asia (ex Japan)/Portfolio Manager, Western Asset Management

 

Mr Soon has 25 years of experience in the financial services industry. He joined Western Asset in 2012 after approximately 16 years with various asset management firms. He joined Western Asset from ST Asset Management, where as a portfolio manager, he implemented an investment strategy for an Asian credit portfolio to buy into undervalued Asia Pacific Bank Capital and China real estate bonds. He was previously at AMP Capital Investors and DBS Asset Management. Prior to that, he was at Pacific Asset Management for approximately 12 years. He began his career as a sell side analyst. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst and has a Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honors) and a Master of Science in Financial Engineering from the National University of Singapore.
Mr Daryl Liew - Senior Portfolio Manager, Reyl Singapore 
From 2002 to 2010 Daryl Liew worked with Providend Ltd in Singapore where he was promoted to Chief Investment Strategist and Executive Director. During this time with the company he formed part of the investment committee and managed the Providend Global portfolios and other client segregated investment accounts. Well known and respected in the industry, he co-authored the Singapore Master Financial Planning Guide, as well as writing numerous articles on investment principles and trends. He graduated with a Masters in Business Management degree, majoring in Finance, at the Asia Institute of Management (Philippines, 2002). He also holds a CFA qualification (2005). He joined Reyl Singapore in November 2010.

Mr Song areas of focus are in the economies of ASEAN-5.  He is a familiar icon in South-East Asia’s news media as he has greatly contributed his professional views on the regional financial markets.

Currently, Timothy manages the ASEAN and Indonesian equity portfolios. From 2000 to 2005, he worked at Citigroup Asset Management initially as a Portfolio Associate as part of the Management Associate program, and subsequently as Assistant Portfolio Manager in 2003. He managed the Indonesian country funds in Citigroup Asset Management. Timothy holds a Bachelor Degree in Marketing from the National University of Singapore.

Before Joining BlackRock in July 2013, David was a Portfolio Manager, Head of Research of IOOF Holdings Limited, one of top six leading Australian financial service providers with assets under management over $110 billion. In that role, he was responsible for overseeing the global equities strategy of multi-asset strategies. David was also managing the research team for external fund selections and model portfolios during that time. From 2003 to 2008, he was Investment Manager for Crowe Howarth in Australia, one of the top accounting firms in the world. He was responsible for investment strategies of the wealth management division. Before joining Crowe Howarth, David also spent near two year as a Derivatives Trader at Societe Generale in Australia, responsible for strategic investment advice and trading to institutional and professional investors. David holds a Graduate Diploma of Applied Investment and Finance. He is a Certified Practicing Accountant and Fellow of Finsia.

Sunny Leung joined State Street Global Advisors as ETF Business Development Manager in 2013.  Based in Singapore, he is responsible for business development, client servicing and investor education for SPDR ETFs in Southeast Asia.  Sunny began his ETF career in 2007 and has extensive experience in business development, product development and management within the ETF industry.  Prior to State Street Global Advisors, Sunny worked at various ETF issuers including Lyxor, Credit Suisse and Vanguard. Christopher is a Certified Financial Planner and a member of the Financial Planning Association of Singapore. Joanne Goh - Regional Equity Strategist, DBS Bank 
Ms Joanne Goh joined DBS Bank as Regional equity strategist in 2006. She is in charge of equity strategy and asset allocation in Asia markets including Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Taiwan, Korea, India, Hong Kong and China, servicing institutional fund managers as well as retail clients in the region.
Prior to joining DBS, she had worked with top ranking equity strategy teams in other foreign investment banks in both Hong Kong and Singapore. She is also part of the DBS Vickers Singapore equity strategy team, which was ranked number 1 in Asiamoney polls in the last two years. 
Joanne has a bachelor of business administration with the National University of Singapore.
Geoff Howie - SGX Market Strategist, Singapore Exchange 
Mr. Howie is the Singapore Exchange’s Market Strategist - and the key contributor to the educational content and market insights of SGX My Gateway. 
He previously held lead broking and strategist roles across the Asia Pacific offices of a large international futures broker. Outside of his 17 year career in the financial markets he has also served as the Treasury Adviser to the Leader of the Queensland Liberal Party in Queensland Parliament.
Following High School in Hong Kong, he attended University of Queensland, receiving a Bachelors and Master’s degree in Economics, the latter extending into deferred PhD work after receiving the highest grading for first-mover research and modeling conducted on the Shanghai economy. 
Mr. Howie’s other notable achievements include receiving two Hong Kong Securities Institute Outstanding Achievers awards for the 2005 year.
Sharon Tan - Director, Deutsche Asset & Wealth Management
Sharon joined Deutsche Asset & Wealth Management in September 2014 and is primarily responsible for the sales efforts and development of the Private Bank distribution business in Asia ex-Japan. She also looks after the Intermediary distribution business in Singapore, which includes Insurance companies, Consumer banks and Independent Financial Advisors. As a product generalist, she covers strategies across Active, Passive and Alternatives strategies.
With ten years of industry experience, Sharon joined from Goldman Sachs Asset Management (GSAM) where she started out in the Institutional sales team, and subsequently joined the third party distribution sales team covering fund distribution with Private Banks in Asia ex-Japan. She was instrumental in building out GSAM’s distribution business in Asia from an inactive segment in 2009 to one of its fastest growing business channels in 2014. 
Prior to GSAM, Sharon was in Ernst & Young Transaction Advisory Business where she worked on mergers and acquisition, corporate finance and audit. 
Sharon holds a Masters of Science, Accounting & Finance from London School of Economic and Political Science. Bachelor of Arts (First Class Honors), Accounting & Finance from University of Leeds, UK.
Ogar Renaldi Widjaja, Vice President – iShares ETF Specialist 
Ogar joined BlackRock in 2011, responsible for Product Strategy and Development for iShares ETFs in Asia, including new fund launches in HK and Singapore. He relocated back to Singapore in July 2015 to cover clients in South East Asia, including Retail, Private Banks, and Independent Asset Managers.
Prior joining BlackRock, Ogar was a Senior Regional Manager for Product Development at HSBC Insurance in HK, and before that, he was a Fixed Income Derivatives Structurer at Fortis Bank HK, and a Quantitative Analyst at ABN AMRO Bank in Sydney.  Ogar holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Applied Mathematics from the University of Melbourne, Postgraduate Diploma in Actuarial Science from Cass Business School London, and MSc in Risk Management from the University of New South Wales. Ogar is also a CFA Charter holder and a Certified FRM.  
Wong Sui Jau – Retirement Planning Ambassador, iFAST Financial Pte Ltd
Wong Sui Jau was born in 1974. He attended Maris Stella High School and Victoria Junior College. He graduated in 1998 with Bachelor of Accountancy from Nanyang Technological University. He then joined Pricewaterhouse Coopers in 1998 and worked as a tax consultant for more than 2 years.
In 2000, he joined iFAST Financial as Research Senior Analyst and has been actively involved in most of the research content from Fundsupermart. He was appointed Research Manager in April 2003 and led the growing research team at Fundsupermart. He was appointed General Manager of Fundsupermart in 2005. He was appointed Regional Research Director of IFAST Financial Pte Ltd in 2015. All this while, he was actively involved in research and has 15 years of experience in unit trust and market research.
He retired in 2015 to be Retirement Planning Ambassador of iFAST Financial Pte Ltd. He remains actively writing articles on investments and retirement planning on his investment blog on Fundsupermart. His market views have been featured on various media including Channel News Asia, and CNBC. His written articles and quotes have been featured on all major newspapers including Business Times, Straits Times and Lian He Zao Bao.

Kay Van-Petersen - Global Macro Strategist, Saxo Capital Markets 
Kay Van-Petersen is a Global Macro obsessed strategist at Saxo, based out of their Singapore regional hub. He called the Chinese yuan devaluation right and has been a multi-year US dollar bull for a while now – all though this theme is now at risk. He is currently a big time emerging market bear, long volatility, shaken on a Fed Hike decision this year amidst global growth concerns & is short hard commodities, with the view that oil will be lower for longer. 
He has over a decade of experience in the financial markets, with over six of those years on the buyside as a trader & analyst across multiple strategies including: equity long/short, fundamental value, event-driven and special sits. In addition to his experience from investment banking, Kay’s background spans numerous asset classes, products and business areas within finance, from PE to ECM, FX Trading to FI Research – hence the natural elevation to Macro. 
Prior to joining SAXO, Kay was Director in the proprietary division of BTG Pactual Asia where he was primarily responsible for setting up the Asian Equities platform; sourcing, analysis and running of investment ideas; overseeing over USD 200m of the bank's Asian exposure; as well as monitoring key macro/political situations in the region. 
He started his career with Nordic financial market leader Danske Bank in their Macro Research & Strategy (FI, FX & DER) departments, followed by a stint at Jefferies Group’s M&A and Corporate Finance divisions), before moving onto the proprietary trading side right before the 2008 financial crisis. 
He holds a MSc. in Applied Economics & Finance from Copenhagen Business School. He’s an emerging market boy & global citizen, having lived in Nairobi, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, London, Hong Kong and Singapore. He’s an avid runner and martial arts enthusiast – albeit the latter has been well out of the money for a while. 


Darius Foo - Senior Business Development Manager, Aberdeen Asset Management Asia Limited
As part of Aberdeen's Business Development team, Darius oversees several key institutional accounts, providing them with training, sales and marketing support. Prior to joining Aberdeen in 2008, Darius worked for Prudential and AXA Wealth Management. He graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration (Merit) degree from the National University of Singapore.

Feily Sofian - Head of Research, The Edge Property Pte Ltd
As research head for The Edge Property Singapore, Feily is responsible in the publication of quality and timely analysis of the property market. Prior to joining The Edge, Feily was an analyst with the Research & Consultancy department at DTZ and Savills as well as a lecturer at Ngee Ann Polytechnic. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science Real Estate from the National University of Singapore and is a candidate for the Master in Applied Economics at the Nanyang Technological University of Singapore.

Daryl Guppy International Investment Master, Special Advisor to OANDA
Daryl Guppy is a widely recognised international investment master and a leading expert on China’s markets. For more than 20 years, he has provided trading and investment analysis to publications and institutions all over the world, and enjoys a reputation as one the strongest financial market educators in Asia. 









Guppy has developed several technical indicators that are included in industry standard software such as DZH NextVIEW, Reuters Metastock and Omnitrader as well as many other charting programs. He developed the ANTSSYS trading indicators for commodity, index and currency markets, available with OANDA. Nicholas Biebuyck, Senior Specialist – Watches at Christie's
A highly respected specialist in watches, especially vintage timepieces, Nicholas Biebuyck joined Christie’s in April 2016, having entered the auction world in 2010 with another international auction house.
Initially working in their motoring department, he chose to focus on his passion for watches in 2012, before deciding to explore new opportunities in private aviation in 2013. He returned to the same auction house in 2014 to head up their Hong Kong watches team, during which time he travelled extensively to liaise with clients, gaining a unique understanding of the market in Asia. 
Known for his passion for vintage chronographs and issued watches, especially those from Rolex, Omega, Heuer and Patek Philippe, he has a wide appreciation for everything from early English pocket watches through to fine modern pieces from the great independent watchmakers. Nicholas is regarded among collectors for his depth and breadth of knowledge, and his honest, analytical and thorough approach to appraising pieces.

Prior to his career with Phillip Futures, Tian Yong has worked in the fields of banking, as well as market research. His experience dealing with the needs of the investor as a consumer, coupled with his knowledge of the markets allows him to translate market developments into understandable and relatable investment opportunities.
Kelvin Wong, Chief Technical Strategist - CityIndex
Kelvin is a professional technical analyst. He has many years of experience in providing investment advisories on stock indices, equities and foreign exchange to proprietary trading desks of major banks such as Barclays Capital, Citibank, Societe Generale and hedge funds in his career. In his trading, Kelvin employs a combination of fundamental and technical analysis.
He specializes in utilizing Elliot Wave and Fibonacci analysis to identify price projections and key reversal points. He has also developed trading strategies to identify a good trading setup in different market conditions as well as a unique way of stock selection using sector rotation. Kelvin has also conducted technical analysis related seminars and training programs for thousands of private traders in Singapore and Malaysia. 
Christopher Brankin, CEO - TD Ameritrade Asia
Christopher Brankin has been CEO of TD Ameritrade Asia since 2011 and he is responsible for managing the operations and strategic direction of the Singapore location. He currently holds Series 3, 4, 7, 24, 34 and 63 U.S. industry licenses, along with Singapore IBF modules 1B and 2.
Brankin is a former market maker and broker from the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) and has over 19 years trading experience in a variety of different financial/investment products. Beginning his career trading corn futures and options at the CBOT, Brankin switched to Capital Markets bond trading on behalf of several of the largest U.S. investment banks. More recently, he was a head trader at the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) for a trading group specializing in equity options.  Brankin commenced with thinkorswim in 2007, which was acquired by TD Ameritrade in 2008. Christopher graduated from the University of Kentucky with a BA in Finance.

Nabil has a decade of experience in currency trading and an in depth knowledge on financial market trade planning and strategies.
Nabil is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and has completed level one of the Chartered Market Technician (CMT). He started his career in the banking industry, serving high net worth clients, specialising in the currency markets.

Christopher Brankin has been CEO of TD Ameritrade Singapore since 2011 and is responsible for managing the operations and strategic direction of the Singapore location. Before TD Ameritrade, Mr. Brankin was head trader at the Chicago Board Options Exchange and was a market maker and broker from the Chicago Board of Trade. He has over 25 years of experience trading a variety of financial/investment products.



Howie Lee is an economist at OCBC Bank, specialising in regional economies and commodities. He is responsible for analysing growth and trade flows, as well as providing commodities insights covering both the near and medium-term horizons. As an economist, his market views have been widely sought after by both the local and international media.
In his seven years in the industry, Howie has gained professional experience on the buy side, sell side and the government. He began his career at local derivatives broker Phillip Futures, where he provided global market coverage on macroeconomics and equity indices. He then moved on to agricultural commodity powerhouse Olam International, where he served as the hedge fund’s soft commodities analyst. In three years at Olam, Howie’s detailed coverage of his portfolio aided the trading desk in churning out profits every year, based on recommended long-short and spread strategies. Howie also had a stint with the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), where he applied his econometric expertise to conduct stress tests on the local financial sector.



Based in Singapore, Vishnu Varathan is Head of Macroeconomics & Strategy for Mizuho Bank (Asia & Oceania). Apart from publishing macroeconomic papers/FX views and speaking on macroeconomic themes at regional seminars/conferences, Vishnu also articulates and exchanges views with regional central banks, sovereign wealth funds and policy think tanks.
In the policy circle, Vishnu is regularly involved in “closed door” discussions with Singapore’s Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Trade & Industry, Ministry of Manpower, Malaysia’s central bank as well as policy think tanks such AMRO (ASEAN+3 Macroeconomic Research Office) and Institute of Policy Studies. Vishnu is also a regular on media (CNBC, Bloomberg, BBC, Reuters TV, Channel News Asia & BFM), providing insights and “Mizuho views”.
Prior to joining Mizuho, Vishnu was Asia Economist with Capital Economics, a leading economics think tank and consultancy; before which, Vishnu headed Emerging Asia Macroeconomics and FX research at 4CAST (an independent research house). Vishnu has a Masters degree in Economics from the University of Sydney and did his undergraduate in Accountancy at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.
