SINGAPORE (Oct 16): HSBC Global Research has brushed away concerns for Starhub, saying that the planned Netflix launch in early 2016 and a prospective fourth telco player are “manageable risks” going forward.

It notes Starhub has been proactively re-contracting subscribers to new two-year plans. This makes initial penetration difficult for Netflix until the contracts lapse again.

Moreover, there are now ways to view Netflix by subscribing to a VPN service, which softens the impact of Netflix – at least by the more “savvy subscribers”.
