Wall Street rose sharply on Tuesday as a post-election rally extended into the new year. The Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 119.16 points, or 0.6%, to end at 19,881.76 points and the S&P 500 gained 0.85% to 2,257.83. The Nasdaq Composite added 0.85% to 5,429.08.

The benchmark Straits Times Index ended Tuesday 0.6% or 18.21 points higher at 2,988.97 on its first trading day of 2017. Volume of stocks traded was nearly 1.8 billion valued at $798 million. Gainers outnumbered loses 242 to 158.
