Singapore’s unemployment rate fell marginally in the third quarter after new jobs were added in the manufacturing and services industries and fewer were lost.
The city-state’s seasonally adjusted overall unemployment rate fell to 2.1% in the third quarter compared with a downwardly revised 2.2% in the second quarter, according to the Ministry of Manpower’s preliminary estimates released Friday.

Total employment is estimated to have grown by 24,100 jobs during the third quarter, compared with 24,900 in the second.
A rebounding global economy and the opening of two integrated casino resorts have helped boost employment in Singapore.
During the third quarter, 1,900 jobs were estimated to have been made redundant, compared with 2,280 in the preceding quarter.
A total of 1,400 workers were estimated to have been retrenched and another 500 had their contracts terminated in the third quarter, the statement said.
