Total Access Communication Pcl, Thailand’s second-biggest mobile-phone company, said third- quarter profit surged 88% after revenue from data services increased and costs declined.
Net income was 3.06 billion baht ($133 million), or 1.29 baht per share, in the three months ended September, from 1.63 billion baht, or 0.69 baht, in the same period a year earlier, the company said. That’s more than the 2.87 billion baht average estimate of 12 analysts surveyed by Bloomberg.
Total Access was among three Thai companies that planned to bid last month for one of three licenses to provide high-speed mobile services, as operators count on increased revenue from data to help counter the slowing pace of subscriber growth. A court upheld an injunction halting the auction, leaving Thailand as one of the only countries in Southeast Asia without widespread 3G technology.
The company said today it will “actively pursue other 3G options,” following the delay in the awarding of license for so-called third-generation mobile services. Total Access maintained its full-year revenue growth target in the “high single digits,” it said in a presentation.
Revenue in the third quarter rose 13% to 18.35 billion baht, the company said. Revenue from value-added services climbed 19%, it said. Costs fell 2% to 2.95 billion baht. Total Access will pay an interim dividend of 0.56 baht per share.
The company added 296,000 subscribers in the third quarter, taking its total customer base to 20.9 million.
