Mainboard-listed Hu An Cable Holdings, one of the top 10 wire and cable manufacturers in China, says it has recently secured a RMB11.0 million ($2.2 million) contract from Guodian Hefeng Wind Power Development Co. to provide wind power cables for their Daqingbei Wind Power Project Phase 1 in Huachuan County of Heilongjiang Province with an installed capacity of 49.5MW per annum.

Under this contract, Hu An Cable will provide a complete range of cable solutions to wind turbines including its patented low temperature and twist-resistant wind power cables which are used in-between the generator and transformer of the wind turbine.

Due to the technological edge of its power cables, Hu An Cable currently has a total order book value of RMB500 million to date, among which RMB61 million or 12.5% of total order book is from renewable energy industries.

It usually takes about 3 to 6 months for the group to deliver the order book.

Guodian Hefeng is a wholly-owned subsidiary of GP Power Development Co., which in turn is a subsidiary of China Guodian Corporation. China Guodian Corporation is among the top five independent power producers in China. Other big players include the China Huaneng Group, China Datang Corporation, China Huadian Corporation and China Power Investment Corporation.

Dai Zhi Xiang, CEO & Executive Chairman of Hu An Cable, says, “With the capability to provide cables for wind turbines with a unit capacity as high as 1500KW, we are looking to secure even more of such wind power cable contracts. We believe power cables that are intended for renewable energy power plants will enlarge their contribution to our overall revenue this year. According to the PRC Government’s 12th five year plan, the proportion of renewable energy power to the overall electricity consumption in the PRC will grow from 5% to 30% in FY2011-FY2015. Sensing this trend, the Group has actively invested in the research and development of wires and cables specifically used for the renewable energy sector. Our patent in wind power cables places us in an enviable position as we ride on the growing number of renewable energy projects across China.”
