The Think Environmental announced that its subsidiary Industrial Power Technology Pte Ltd (IPT) and its associated company, Industrial Power (Thailand) Co. have signed an EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) contract with Surin Bio Power worth $19.6 million to build a rice husk fired biomass power plant in the Surin Province in Thailand.

The proposed power plant in Surin will consume 90,000 tons of rice husk per annum and would represent IPT’s fourth biomass power plant in Thailand, following Mungcharoen Green Power Plant.

Danny Hoon, CEO of IPT, says, “Thailand represents an important part of our business and we are pleased to secure this project with Surin Bio. Surin Bio has shown tremendous interest and commitment in pursuing this project and IPT is honored to be chosen as the EPC for this undertaking. We look forward to breaking ground on the project as soon as possible.”

The project, first announced in February this year, will see IPT design, engineer, supply, supervise, install, test and commission the Surin power plant, which will have a capacity of 9.9 megawatts, enough to power over 10,000 homes.

IPT is a leading specialist in the turnkey construction and integration of biomass power plants in Southeast Asia with a proven track record. Among other projects, it constructed the 9.9 MW rice husk fired power plant for Mungcharoen Green Power Co Ltd in Thailand, which has been in operation since February 2007.

It also constructed an empty fruit bunch fired power plant for FELDA in Malaysia.
