KTL Global, one of Asia’s major suppliers of rigging equipment to the offshore oil & gas sectors, has delivered a heavy lift package for one of the largest platform decommissioning projects in Japan.

Each part of the entire heavy lift equipment package, worth more than $2 million in total, had to meet stringent length tolerances as well as demanding load testing standards.

For instance, every one of the 60 slings was individually proof-load tested using KTL’s very own fully-computerised testing machine — the Kimtest 3000 test bed — to ensure reliability for lifting work on a 20,000 metric tonne offshore platform.

Sitting in 150-metre-deep waters located 40 kilometres east of Naraha Cho in Fukushima prefecture, this platform is among the largest to be decommissioned in Japan to date.
