Singapore’s Straits Times Index gained 0.4% to 2,844.35 at the close. Four stocks gained for each that dropped on the 30-member gauge.
Shares on the measure trade at 14 times estimated earnings, compared with about 17.5 times at the beginning of the year, according to Bloomberg data. The following shares were among the most active in the market.
Hong Leong Asia (HLA SP), the Singapore company that got 87% of its sales from China last year, declined 3.5% to $3.86. DBS Group Holdings downgraded the stock to “hold” from “buy”.
Olam International (OLAM SP), a supplier of agricultural commodities, climbed 2.1% to $2.44. The company said it bought an additional 10 million shares in New Zealand Farming Systems Uruguay for NZ$4.1 million ($4 million).
SIA Engineering Co. (SIE SP), the aircraft maintenance arm of Singapore Airlines (SIA SP), increased 2.4% to $3.83. DBS Group Holdings raised its share-price forecast to $4.30 from $3.80 and maintained its “buy” rating. Singapore Air gained 0.3% to $14.60.
Sound Global (SGL SP), a water-treatment company, surged 8.3% to 84.5 cents. DMG & Partners Securities Pte increased its share-price forecast to $1.04 from 75 cents and maintained its “buy” rating.
