ST Engineering’s electronics arm, ST Electronics, has been awarded a contract worth $4.6 milion by Changchun Railway Vehicles Co (CRC). ST Electronics will provide the Passenger Information Systems (PIS) for the Rio De Janeiro metro vehicles, a project awarded to CRC by Concessao Metroviaria Do Rio De Janeiro SA.

The PIS will be installed in 19 trains, with a total of 114 cars. The PIS will enhance passenger travel experience through the provision of comprehensive real-time audio and multimedia information via its computerised public announcement and digital display sub-systems.

ST Engineering says work on the project commences immediately and will be completed by the end of 2014. ST Electronics will design, manufacture and commission the PIS for the project with contribution from its wholly owned subsidiary in Shanghai, China.
