The benchmark Straits Times Index (.FTSTI) rose 0.9% to end at 2,782.55 last evening. US stocks suffered their biggest one-day decline in nearly three weeks last night after a sharp drop in consumer confidence heightened worries. Here are some stocks and factors to watch:
Noble Group (NOBG.SI) said its 2009 net profit fell 3.6% to $556m from a year ago as revenues were hurt by falling commodity prices.
Property developer UOL Group (UTOS.SI) reported a near tripling of net profit to $424.2 million last year, helped by “negative goodwill” gains of $281 million from its purchase of shares in fellow developer UIC. The firm said it expects 2010 to be “another healthy year”.
Property firms may get a boost after a site in northern Singapore attracted the highest bid of $164 million at a government land auction — nearly three times the top bid received when the site was offered for sale two years ago, the local press reported.

Raffles Education Corporation, the regional private education provider, says it has tied up with ITE Education Services to conduct ITE-certified courses at Oriental University City (OUC) in Langfang, China.
Hi-P International, the electro-mechanics manufacturer for wireless communications and consumer electronics, registered a net profit of $53.7 million and revenue of $749.9 million for the 12 months ended 31 December 2009 (FY2009).
Hock Lian Seng, the BCA Grade 1 civil engineering infrastructure builder and building materials supplier, posted record revenue and net profit for its FY2009 ended Dec 31. The group achieved a 36.9% rise in net profit to $21.3 million on the back of a 15.6% rise in revenue to $224.8 million.
Singapore Exchange (SGXL.SI) and Oslo Bors (OSLO.NFF) yesterday said that two companies will list their shares on both exchanges as part of a collaboration deal. Singapore-listed China Fishery Group (CNFG.SI) will list in Oslo; while Oslo-listed Golden Ocean Group (GOGL.OL), a dry bulk carrier, will trade its shares in Singapore.
Wheelock Properties recorded profit after tax for the 4th quarter ended 31 December 2009 was $169 million, a turnaround from the net loss of $63.8 million a year ago. Revenue rose 24.4% to $90.1 million.
