Singapore’s Straits Times Index was little changed at 2,744.14 as of 9:47 a.m., erasing gains of as much as 0.4% earlier. Seven stocks advanced for every six that declined.
Stocks on the measure trade at 14.6 times estimated earnings, compared with about 10 times at the start of 2009, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.
The following shares were among the most active in the market. Stock symbols are in parentheses after company names.
CapitaLand (CAPL SP), Southeast Asia’s biggest developer, added 0.3% to $3.76. The company said 95% of the units at its Beaufort condominium project in Beijing have been sold since the properties were first offered in late January. Total sales value amounts to more than 800 million yuan ($166 million), it said.
China Environment (CENV SP), a maker of equipment used in treating waste gas, climbed 4.1% to 25.5 cents. The company said it won a 58.2 million yuan ($12.1 million) contract from the Shanxi Province Electric Co.
Noble Group (NOBL SP), the Hong Kong-based commodities supplier, gained 2.2% to $2.84. The company is in talks to help Aston Resources Pty. finance its A$480 million ($523.8 million) purchase of the Maules Creek coal deposit, the Australian Financial Review reported in its Street Talk column, without saying where it got the information. Aston needs to provide financing by Feb 16 after agreeing to buy the deposit from Coal & Allied Industries, according to the newspaper. Noble rose 1.8% to $2.78.
Pan Hong Property Group (PANH SP), a China-based property developer, rose 1.1% to 47.5 cents. The company said it had third-quarter profit of $56.8 million, compared with a year-earlier loss of $3.6 million.
Raffles Education Corp. (RLS SP), the operator of design schools in China and India, surged 12% to 38.5 cents, the steepest gain since Feb 27, 2009. The company said Rawa Investments (Cayman Islands), a unit of Malaysian state-linked investment company Khazanah Nasional Bhd, agreed to buy a 10% of its wholly-owned unit Oriental University City for $62.5 million.
