CWT says its container logistics arm OCWS Logistics, one of the largest container depot operators in Singapore, has expanded its operations to Malaysia.
Since January, OCWS has started operating a 217,800 sqft container depot at On Dock Depot, West Port in Port Klang, Malaysia through its wholly-owned subsidiary CWT Container Logistics Sdn Bhd.
Located in the southwest of Port Klang, the busiest port in Malaysia, West Port is one of Malaysia’s leading private seaport which grew based on its expertise in handling transshipment cargo.
CWT’s says its On Dock Depot sited within West Port provides an ideal storage location for shipping line container as it reduces transportation cost and time for shipping line in transferring from ship to storage facilities as well as supporting the container movements to the shippers and warehouses. Today, the area around West Port is growing as a logistics hub with specialised industries and logistics centers being built.
During the recent economic downturn, many customers have started to increase their container storage volume in Malaysia as it provides a cost effective location for their container storage, maintenance and repair services as well as lower transportation cost. With the establishment of its container logistics operations in Malaysia, OCWS will now be able to extend its scope of quality services to a broader base of customers leveraging its combined facilities in Singapore and Malaysia.
“The expansion into Malaysia is a strategic move to build network for our container logistics business and capture more opportunities in the region,” said Mr Loi Pok Yen, Group CEO of CWT. “This is in line with our overall strategy to focus on providing niche logistics services, which has worked well for us.”
Focusing on general purpose containers, OCWS’ container depot operations in Port Klang will add another 3,500 TEUs of storage capacity to its existing four container depots in Singapore and expand its container logistics business to the region, strengthening the group’s competitive position as a leading provider of supply chain logistics solutions.
