Globalfoundries Inc., the chipmaker that bought Singapore’s Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing for $2.5 billion, said it plans to expand production of 300 millimeter wafers to 1.6 million by 2014.
The company will expand its Fab 1 facility in Dresden, Germany, and the Fab 7 plant in Singapore, as well as build a new 300 millimeter facility in New York called Fab 8 to expand production, according to an e-mailed press release today.
