The Dow and the S&P 500 rose last night after Bank of America (BAC.N) and General Electric (GE.N) rallied on positive broker comments, but investors were cautious a day before the release of key monthly non-farm payrolls data.
Bulk carriers: The Baltic Dry Index, which measures the cost of shipping commodities, fell 3.4% yesterday in London, taking losses in the past two days to 3.7%. Cosco Corp. Singapore (COS SP), a China-based shipbuilder that also operates bulk carriers, gained 2.4% to $1.29. STX Pan Ocean Co. (STX SP), South Korea’s biggest bulk carrier, climbed 6% to $15.20.
Frasers Centrepoint Trust (FCT SP): The shopping mall operator said it has agreed to buy two suburban shopping malls in Singapore from parent Fraser & Neave (FNN SP) for $290.3 million. Frasers Centrepoint gained 2.8% to $1.45. Fraser & Neave lost 0.2% to $4.37.
Novo Group (NOVO SP): The steel supplier said it seeks a dual primary listing in Hong Kong. Novo climbed 7.3% to 22 cents.
Waste-water firm Epure International (EPIL.SI) is seeking to raise about $279 million in its share offering in Hong Kong, a source familiar with the deal said yesterday.
United Fiber System (UFSL.SI) said last night its construction unit has secured a $191 million contract from Guocoland Group for the construction of a 12-storey condominium development project in Singapore.
Palm oil suppliers: Crude palm oil for March delivery dropped 2.7% yesterday in Kuala Lumpur, snapping gains of 4.3% in the past five days. Golden Agri-Resources (GGR SP), the world’s second-biggest palm oil producer, rose 1.7% to 58.5 cents. Indofood Agri Resources (IFAR SP), the palm oil unit of Indonesia’s biggest noodle maker, dropped 2.5% to $2.37. Wilmar International (WIL SP), the world’s biggest palm oil trader, lost 0.4% to $6.76.
Asia Pacific Breweries (APB SP): The maker of Tiger beer said it has sold $40 million of 12-year notes at a fixed interest rate of 4% per annum. Proceeds from the note issue will be used to partly fund the acquisition of Heineken NV’s stakes in PT Multi Bintang Indonesia and Grande Brasserie de Nouvelle Caledonie SA. Asia Pacific Breweries added 0.7% to $12.38.
Jardine Cycle & Carriage (JCNC SP): The automotive distributor that gets 89% of sales from Indonesia was cut to “neutral” from “buy” at Goldman Sachs Group Inc. Jardine Cycle slipped 1% to $26.94.
Keppel Land (KPLD SP): The property unit of the world’s biggest oil rig builder said it has bought a site for its third township project in Ho Chi Minh City. Keppel Land was unchanged at $3.70.
